Create a laytime calculation from an rSOF or eSOF and let rContract fill in the laytime terms. AI calculates when laytime commenced and ended, and shows its reasoning so you can check it.

**Before you start:**

Make sure the voyage has an rSOF or eSOF, and an rContract if you want the terms filled in. See [Read an SOF and a contract with AI](docId\:tmeaeJfu7HSvb8wBb1IGt).

## Create Laytime

On the voyage, in the **SOF's** section, click **Create Laytime** next to the **rSOF** or **eSOF** you want to use.
:::

## Select a contract

In the **Select Contract to use** popup, click the contract you want to use.

To calculate without a contract, click **Create Laytime without contract** and enter the terms yourself.

## Review the laytime terms

The laytime terms are filled in for you from the contract and the SOF, such as the demurrage and despatch rates, currency, load or discharge rate, and terms like SSHEX. Check each value against your contract and change anything that needs correcting.

To see all port-related laytime clauses from the contract, click **View AI contract summary**.

## Check laytime start and end

**Laytime commenced** and **End of laytime counting** are calculated for you. To see how AI reached a time, click **See AI reasoning** next to it.

The reasoning is set out in four parts:

| **Rule** | The contract clauses that apply, for example that laytime ceases when cargo loading is completed. |
| ------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Facts** | The SOF events AI used, with their dates and times. |
| **Analysis** | How the clauses apply to those events. |
| **Result** | The time that goes into the calculation. |

If you don't agree with a time, change the date or time in the field.

## Apply laytime rules to SOF events

Go to the **SOF** tab. Here you'll find all timepoints and periods from the SOF, each with a category.

- **Find events:** use **Show** to filter by one or more categories, or search by remark. Categories include Weather delays, Maneuvering, Surveys, Time point, Cargo operations, Waiting, Warping, Damage, Bunkering and Other.
- **Apply a rule:** select the events, choose a laytime rule, for example **Bad weather**, and click **Apply**. The rule decides how the time counts in the calculation.

:::hint{type="info"}
**Pro tip:**

Filter on Weather delays, select all rain periods and apply **Bad weather** in one go. No need to edit each event separately
